Can my eyes be deceiving me? Is this actually content, genuine content, that I see?
Yes indeed, people, here at last is the first episode of Sundered, Part 1 of Prelude One — Traits.
Introduce yourself to the world of Sundered as an exhausted stranger, stranded in the wastes, rolls into the unappealing settlement called Liss … and meets a mysterious woman who will set his life on a strange, dangerous new path.
This is a long one, people — over thirty minutes of pure story!
I just endured two days of seemingly unsolvable technical issues with the mp3 encoding of this file. Will the delays and stumbling blocks never cease? I seem to have found a workaround to the issue that was troubling me. Please, if you experience trouble with the file, with the feeds, or anything, let me know and I’ll get on it!
Special thanks to Nathan Lowell for generously giving some of his time helping me solve my technical issues. Nathan has an awesome series of four trillion podcast novels at: Durandus.org. Check them out, and tell him Raphael sent ya!
Promo (and pimping) in this episode: Scott Sigler’s INFECTED. Go to: http://www.scottsigler.com and http://infectednovel.com and learn why the entire human race is DOOMED!
Thanks for listening, and for your patience. You people rock!

Hey everyone,
Episode 1 of Sundered—Prelude 1 Episode 1—Episode 1 of Prelude 1 of the Sundered experience—The first part of the prelude of the… oh, heck, the first episode of Sundered is in post-production now. All material has been recorded and the edit is largely complete.
Unbelievable as it may seem—and impossible as it may be to believe someone who has yet to follow through on his promises—the actual first bona fide for-real no-kidding honest-to-god episode of Sundered will drop this weekend.
Honest.
No fooling.
Scout’s honor!
Look for it!
Update: It’s nearly done; I’m about 85% through editing. I worked until 1 A.M. last night and just didn’t quite get there. The consolation I offer is that it’s a long one, with at least 25 minutes of pure story. I’ll get this baby into the feed absolutely as soon as possible!

Hey everyone,
This last weekend, finally back at home with my equipment, I recorded some test runs on the first episode of Sundered. I’ve got the technical side of the equation down pat; I think you’ll all find the quality pretty good. I tried two different approaches to the actual spoken performance, and learned a lot from the (somewhat painful) experience.
None of this really matters to you, I know. But the result of this test run is that I will be shortly recording the first episode, and if I don’t get the performance exactly as I want it … I’ll release it anyway. One way or another, the first episode should be up in a matter of days.
Also in a matter of days is another significant event in the podcast novel sphere. Crime novelist Seth Harwood’s first novel in print—the stylish noir caper Jack Wakes Up—is making a run for the Amazon.com charts, and he needs all our help to get there. Now I know that most of you have a vested interest in seeing the world of podcast fiction be as successful as possible, to make it a viable venue for top-notch writers to continue to release and promote free audio fiction. If crime fiction is your cup of tea, do consider participating in what Seth is calling Palms Sunday, and make the traditional print world sit up and take notice!
You can learn more about Seth and Palms Sunday at http://sethharwood.com.

Hi everyone,
As I race to sort my situation enough and hottail it back to my recording rig, here is a PDF sneak peek at the first Sundered Prelude, “Traits”. A listener (prospective listener? Reader?) had suggested the idea of a written sneak preview, and I’m only too happy to oblige. I hope it whets your appetite until I can knock this baby out in bona fide audio format.
Enjoy, everyone!

Folks, I’m away from home in the midst of a family emergency. I have a very sick family member who needs my help, which means that, since I’m not physically with my equipment, I can’t make my promised release. Again.
I can only ask that you find whatever reserves of patience you have left within you (a virtue that, gods know, I’ve strained to the breaking point) to let me resolve this, get my rear end home and get this bloody episode in the can.
I will get this debut posted and you all will get the chance to enjoy it, no matter how many stumbling blocks life thrusts in my path. Please give me a chance to prove it. Thanks, everyone.

It’s the plague! Run for your lives! Ladies and gentlemen, for more than the last week I have been the victim of a virulent plague, so nasty and offensive it can only have come from deep in the cold void of space. I’m pretty sure I caught it from that weird-looking guy in the milk section at my local grocery store (I thought he was a little suspicious), but in any event, suffice to say that it has played holy havoc on my podcast plans. It seems that all I do around here is make excuses for delay after delay, but enough of that. I shall delay no more.
Mark your calendars. On Thursday, 7 February, the first of a handful of Sundered Preludes will go live. Think of these Preludes as a really ostentatious term for short stories, set in the Sundered world. I will roll out a few of these Preludes on a regular basis before we launch into the full epic novel itself.
Now, these stories are not a prerequisite to experiencing the novel Sundered. You can skip them and enjoy the novel on its own. But I hope you give them a try — not only are they a fun way to introduce yourself to the Sundered universe, but I’ll be dropping a few very juicy clues to the main novel to reward the attentive, so keep your ears perked!
For those of you who have had the patience to endure all my inexcusable prevaricating and dissembling, thank you! I hope that you enjoy the material when we launch on Thursday. See you there!

By now it is manifestly evident that I am a liar.
I broadcast to the world that Sundered was coming in late 2007, and 2007 is now a closed book, sans Sundered.
To find the guilty parties for this shameful delay, you have to look no farther than Mr. J.C. Hutchins, Mr. Scott Sigler, Mr. Tee Morris, Ms. Christiana Ellis, or any of the other creeps who have elevated the art of the podiobook to such a lofty level that one can no longer grab a handheld recorder and just talk. I have now recorded the first episode of Sundered four times over, and each has been a significant improvement over the last in terms of both technical quality and, even more importantly, vocal performance.
But it’s not quite good enough for release. Not yet.
So this is what I’m going to beg of you all. Please, please give me a couple of weeks to train my voice and fine-tune my equipment until I feel at least reasonably confident that the recorded episodes can match what I think — what I hope — is the quality of the written material.
Thanks so much for being patient with someone who may just be too picky for his own good, and I hope more than anything that when episode 1 rolls out in a couple of weeks, it will be worth all these delays.
Have a great New Year everyone, and we’ll see you all in a couple of weeks.

Everyone,
Episode 1 is coming in the next few days. Intent on getting both the performance and the manuscript just right, I’ve already made a number of trial recordings of episode one in an effort to improve my reading of the material, and the technical quality.
Revealing the behind-the-scenes process may appear unprofessional, but that’s fine with me. I wanted to assure everyone that much work continues to go on for the debut despite a lack of updates in the past couple of weeks here at the site.
Just a few more days!
