Sundered Episode 10
It’s the breathless conclusion to “A Fracture in the Paradigm”! And I’m worn out… This episode may have a shorter running time than the last one, but it’s actually just as many story pages—the plot rolls forward so quickly that I found myself reading at lightning pace. I need to catch my breath!
Last episode we left Ben in a tight spot indeed. How does he get out of it? And what’s going to happen to those two all-important duffel bags? And who are the Greasers? All but one of those questions will be answered in this episode!
In three weeks, be sure and come back for the beginning of the four-part epic, “The Four Who Came”. The mysterious Talents are returning to the spotlight!
If you want to spread the word about Sundered there’s an easy but very effective way. Put a graphic banner and link on your site! Download a ton of different options at http://sunderednovel.com/banners/ and spread the word, then be sure to email me that you’ve done it (raphael@sunderednovel.com). It would be awesome beyond words!
Enjoy episode 10!

Gotta say, not your best work. After all the unanswered questions at the end of Steel Drum, I was hoping you’d give us at least a few answers. All you left us with here is a lot more questions.
I get the impression Ben is still alive, and at some point he’ll get some idea of what this is all about. Honestly though, if you keep building up the secrets like this, it’s going to be pretty much impossible to make it satisfying when all is finally revealed.
Look forward to getting back to the talents. Wonder what other abilities you’ll be giving to the people of this world.

Sorry “A Fracture in the Paradigm” didn’t float your boat, David. Perhaps “The Four Who Came” will suit you more.
Sundered is a very large story, so there will be many questions before there are answers. You’ll just have to let me know whether you are satisfied or not when the pieces begin to fall into place.

I love where the overarching story seems to be going. So, I’m going to have to disagree with David because Raphael seems to be in the world building portion of the story. He also seems to be using this time to introduce the listeners to many of the characters that interact within the Sundered Universe. If I remember correctly these short stories were originally just going to be the setup into a longer podcast novel (sort of like webisodes for BSG going into a season). I don’t think that this is the exact format that Raphael is using anymore, but regardless these short stories seem to be here for three reasons:
1) Introduce us to a new world
2) Introduce us to some characters in that world
3) Introduce intrigue (aka questions)
I think Raphael has done a good job of answering a few questions while creating many news ones. It appears to be a complex world and I like this type of big picture storytelling.

Thanks very much for your comment, Brian. I think you’ve described what I’m trying to do quite well.
To use a very writerly term, I’m laying down tracks right now, and the scope of the story is such that the mystery will take time to gel. What looks like disparate plotlines will begin to converge into one overarching saga, I promise.
Besides, I’m a sucker for cliffhangers.
“Introducing Intrigue” — I like that term! Mind if I steal it?
