Sundered

Sundered Episode 5

Hey everyone,

A jumbo-sized episode for you this time, a 46 minute-long whopper, continuing “Steel Drum”.

When we last left Vid, a couple of terrifying suited figures had emerged from a hatch and taken him. What will he find when he awakes? The answer may surprise you.

After the frenetic action of the first two episodes, this one slows down a bit. There’s a lot of development and new faces to digest, but hang on, I’m pretty sure you’ll find it’s all worth it for the big cliffhanger at the end.

There should be two more episodes of “Steel Drum”, and then we’ll all have the fictional equivalent of an after-dinner mint with a couple shorter, more condensed stories in the Preludes series.

Listen for the super-duper promo this time, by one of my absolute favorite podcast novelists, Matthew Wayne Selznick, who’s pulling a dynamite all-day event this Sunday, July 13, to promote the release of his stunning novel, Brave Men Run, in print. Learn more at http://mattsezlnick.com. Can you actually combine The Breakfast Club and The X-Men into one seamless story? Matt did, boy did he.

Justin R. Durban has outdone himself for the music in this episode. Alan Bainbridge remains phenomenal as the narrator of Sundered.

That was cool. I had a feeling something was coming, but I didn’t expect what I found. :)

Excellent, Mark! That’s just what I wanted to hear.

And thanks for being cryptic as well, so as not to spoil the surprise for other listeners.

I’ll be cryptic as well: there will be more twists to the revelation before all is revealed…

Interesting change of pace. Your first story was all about the mutations caused by what I can only assume were nuclear weapons on certain people. This story seems to focus on some of the remaining higher technology left functioning after generations of degeneration.

Hope when the novel finally comes out you can incorporate these two things.

David, one of the goals of the Preludes was to introduce some of the themes of the forthcoming novel individually, as a kind of appetizer. Both the mutations and the derelict technology you’ve referred to do form major elements of the novel, and you’ll find that they’re actually interdependent.

Steel Drum has some clues which hint at this connection, but they’re somewhat obscure. Ultimately, all of these apparently disparate elements will converge. If I’ve done my work right, much of the fun will be in watching how they fall into place.
